THE SEASON AS I SEE IT

There are at least six reasons why the pollsters have apparently decided to leave our South Carolina Gamecocks out of the top 25 this week. I am sure everyone remembers the infamous 6-1 to 6-6 slide that the Cocks went on a few years ago. So now, sitting on the cusp of another fairly good season if we can survive the murderers row of a schedule that is waiting for us, I am inclined to wonder what happens now.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is not only Spurriers first completely hand picked recruiting class, but also his AND Carolina's best. Looking back over the last ten years, pre-OBC, it is not easy to say that this team is better or even as good as some in the past. Think back to 2006 when there were twenty-four, yes 24 potential and future NFL prospects on this team. Eight of those have went on to play and are currently on a roster somewhere. Now, parlaying all of these current players into a successfull result is a different story, but one the OBC has written and read a few times in his career. How they fare against the mighty SEC this year (and next) will write the ending to this story, happy or otherwise.

Back to the polls. With SCST up next and Kentucky waiting in the wings, the cocks should be hanging around the top 25, likely in the 17-22 range, at 5-1. We will roll into Alabama a little banged up but mentally rested, prepared for a beating or one helluva celebration whichever one is meant to be. A win at Alabama would hoist our BLACK MAGIC FLAG somewhere around 8-9 in the polls. A revenge win against Vady and a squeeker against the Vols could propel the Cocks to the Top 5. Now comes Arkansas, and oops, a slip-up if not prepared to score some points. But with a win against the razorbacks, only Florida remains of a brutal SEC schedule. Win or lose, we will know who we are afte that game. Clemson is the last victim before the BCS comes a callin' but I am keeping quiet about the Tigers and the BCS for now.

I am just glad to be back on the blog after a week of server issues.
